Uploading WMV Video to Classroom Portal

Encoding
Encoding the file(s)
- Open the Windows Movie Maker.
- Drag the first file to the Collections window.
- Drag that file to the First open story board window.
- Continue to drag each remaining file to the Collections window and then to the story board window.
- Go to File, Save Movie File.
- Select My Computer as the location, click Next.
- Output the file to the desktop as, CLASSNAME-YEAR-MONTH-DAY.wmv (PSYCH101A-2005-09-28.wmv). Please use the the full class name (such as BIOL100A or BIOC440A, NOT bio100), and keep the '0's in the dates. If you are unsure, please check in the classroom portal for the correct name. Click Next.
- Click Show More Choices, click Other settings.
- Select Video for broadband (340 Kbps), click Next.
- Close Windows Movie Maker.
Check the video
- Check the video to confirm that the whole class was recorded and that we have sound.
Remove Author
- Use the Windows Media File Editor to remove the author (logged in user).
Uploading the WMV file
- Ensure that the file is correctly named. Please use the the full class name, such as BIOL100A-1999-12-31.wmv or BIOC440A-1999-12-31.wmv, and keep the '0's in the dates. If you are unsure, please check in the classroom portal for the correct name
- Open sFTP and connect to homer.u.washington.edu, and login as cssstrm. Open the public_media folder. Make sure that the Binary button is selected.
- Copy the encoded file to the remote folder. Let the file upload, then close sFTP.
Posting
New entry in Classroom Portal
- Go to http://www.css.washington.edu/blog/.
- Click Admin on the right side of the screen.
- Login with the cssstream UWNetId.
- Find the class you have encoded the video for, click Add Item.
- Enter the following:
<a href="mms://media.depts.washington.edu/cssstrm/CLASSNAME-YEAR-MONTH-DAY.wmv">TITLE</a>
- Enter a description based of: "Video Recording for Year-Month-Day", such as Video Recording for 1999-12-31.
- Click OK.
- Change the Category from General to Recording, make sure the category is still under the correct class.
- Save the changes to ther blog entry by clicking Add Item.
Check the streaming video
- Go to http://www.css.washington.edu/blog/.
- Click Admin on the right side of the screen.
- Login with the CSSSTRM UWNetID.
- Find the class you have encoded the video for, click the globe icon to the left of the class.
- Check the streaming video to confirm that it plays.
