Overview
Mary Gates Hall (MGH) encompasses eighteen classrooms, ten meeting rooms, and an auditorium. The Commons, which is located in the heart of the building, can accommodate up to 260 guests for a standing reception and also makes a wonderful site for trade fairs or display events.
History
Twin to Johnson Hall, the building is named after Mary Gates, mother of Bill Gates (co-founder of Microsoft), and an alumna of the UW. Mary Gates houses the following departments:
- Undergraduate Gateway Center: Where students go for academic counseling before declaring a major. Advisors assist students on what classes to take and how to prepare for the program of their choice.
- Center for Career Services: Acts as a job placement center for all UW students. It offers on-campus interviews with over 400 companies and has 7,000 job offerings per year. The CCS also provides interviewing seminars and resume workshops.
- Center for Learning and Undergraduate Enrichment (CLUE): Provides study assistance for many entry-level classes Sunday through Thursday from 7:00pm - 12:00am.
- UW Honors Program: With more than 1,500 students, benefits include small, interdisciplinary classes, honors freshman seminars, honors residence hall floors, honors computer lab & lounge, and additional merit scholarships and study abroad opportunities.
Mary Gates, like many areas on campus, has wireless internet access throughout. A computer lab with more than 180 PCs and Macs can also be found on the first floor.
