Farewell to Freedom
- 1982 ----- color ----- 55 min ----- vhs
- Told in the context of America's contemporary immigration problems, this is the story of the struggle of the Hmong people of Laos, staunch allies of the U.S. during the Indochina War to escape communist persecution and emigrate to America. Because of their sympathies with Americans, many of the Hmong are living in refugee camps in Thailand encumbered by bureaucratic red tape in their efforts to leave and uncertain as to their reception in the United States. Scenes of the Hmong who have made it to America show some of the more complex problems which include living in an atmosphere plagued by distrust, culture shock and unemployment.
