- (Northwest Resource Center for Children, Youth and Families) Several cases of sexual assault are followed to illustrate the numerous interviews, disbelief, prolonged adjudication and demeaning cross-examination to which child victims are subjected. The need for professionals to understand the child's embarrassment, the dynamics of sexual abuse and child developmental stages is stressed. Preparation for and techniques of interviewing are reviewed, as well as a prosecutor's case preparation and courtroom techniques. The importance and role of the child advocate are also discussed.
