- Under British law suicide is no longer illegal but the abetting of it is an offence. This is the paradox that confronts hundreds of terminally ill or elderly and infirm people and those who must watch them suffer. Looks at three such cases: a young woman with terminal cancer, an elderly woman with multiple sclerosis and arthritis and a woman whose husband died of cancer after numerous unsuccessful and distressing suicide attempts. Looks at the efforts of Exit (a society for those who want the right to choose to end their own lives) to publish a 10,000 word booklet on suicide. Presents various views on this disturbing and painful problem.
