- Psychologists can't predict all the changes in adulthood by knowing a person's childhood. Although some aspects of personality may remain stable from childhood to adulthood, adults are much more different from each other than are children. However, all adults must cope with certain common life events: forming intimate relationships, parenthood, job changes, marriage of children, menopause in women, grandparenthood, health changes, death of parents, death of mate and, finally, one's own death. These events create universal developmental tasks but individuals perform these tasks in many different ways. (vhs Restricted to use on University of Washington campuses only)
