Chung Kuo Cina, Parte I*

- (Note di viaggio in 3 parti Di Michelangelo Antonioni; directed and narrated by Michelangelo Antonioni; produced by RAI--Radiotelevisione Italiana) This documentary by one of Italy's leading film directors, long unseen in the United States (and never in its present uncut form), was made at the invitation of The People's Republic of China. In the 1970s there was scarcely any information about China available in the outside world, so this was a real opportunity. We knew of Mao and his Little Red Book but scarely more. China, one supposes, felt safe with Antonioni, due to his political leanings, that he would present a positive picture of their country. Shows the area around Beijing, including a cotton factory, older sections of the city, a clinic where a Cesarean operation is performed using acupuncture and a primary school. (Funded by the Jackson School of International Studies) (In Italian and Chinese without subtitles) (Restricted to use on University of Washington campuses only)
