They have survived in the sea for millions of years. They communicate with light and color. They have the largest brains of any invertebrate animal. And we know relatively little about them. But a decade of discoveries leads us to the extraordinary possibility that the prime intelligences in the ocean may be a race of "incredible suckers," the cephalopods--chambered nautilus, cuttlefish, octopus and squid. Biologist and underwater filmmaker Mike deGruy has been studying cephalopods for over twenty years, and in locations around the world, he goes to great depths (a mile and a half down) to get up close and personal with a variety of these extraordinary creatures, including a giant octopus, a giant squid and the "Vampire Squid from Hell."
