(Directed by Sergei M. Eisenstein, cinematography by Eduard Tisse, musical score by Dimitri Shostakovich) Based on an incident which occurred on the Prince Potemkin during the 1905 uprising, the film is the most complex demonstration of Eisenstein's editing technique, which is especially expressive in the famous "Odessa Steps Sequence." All film texts cite the montage experiments (collision of images, parallel editing, expansion of time) embodied in this scene, which is, above all, overwhelmingly moving. It is considered by many critics as one of the ten greatest films of all time.
