- (Historical Collection) Dr. Joseph F. Rock was one of the leading anthropological explorers of the early Twentieth Century. He lead many expeditions, some for the National Geographic Society. This present compilation (2/2000) brings together some of his most important cinematic records from his expeditions to Tibet and China from archival film materials (some seldom seen). Including: Expedition to Mi-nyag (13 min) A journey into Sikang Province, China, and a first exploration of the Mi-nyag mountains. Na-Khi Har-La-Llu Dance (12 min) The people of Na Khi Village demonstrate the dance for the propitiation of suicide, performed specifically for Dr. Rock to film. Celebration of the Feast of Tsong Kha Pa (6 min) Tibetan religious dances. Na-Khi Dances (6 min) Dto-Mba dancer demonstrates dances of the various Na Khi deities during which the particular enemy of each god is vanquished. Additionally, the National Geographic Society has provided additional footage from these expeditions with, however, a time signature within the frame. (21 min)
