Dream Is Alive, The*

  • 1985 ----- color ----- 37 min ----- laserdisc
  • Originally presented in IMAX theatres around the world, this production was filmed in space by the astronauts, including George "Pinky" Nelson. The astronauts were trained to take the bulky cameras with them and shoot the first Imax footage from space. They spent some of their preflight training time learning to load and operate the camera, which is the size of a concrete block and can shoot only three minutes of film at a time. Now a part of history, the film provides a close-up look at several space shuttle missions, including the Challenger's 1984 mission to repair a damaged satellite.
