Girls in the Hood
- 1997 ----- color ----- 26 min ----- vhs
- (ABC News Primetime Live) ABC News gave two girl gang members in Los Angeles videocameras and for four months they compiled a diary which takes most of us deeper into gangs than we have ever gone before. It's a world outside the law, a world of violence and vengence where the risks are high and the judgment is final. "Jokey", a member of The Drifters, and "Mara", a leader of Tepa 13, show how drugs, violence and death are a part of everyday life. Gangs protect, and terrorize, the few blocks of territory which they stake out as their own. It is a world of friendship fueled by guns, drugs, sex and malt liquor--where your life depends on decoding the subtlest gestures.
