- (Movement Style and Culture series) This introduction to choreometrics demonstrates that dance is both an index to and a key element in the development of human culture. It illustrates two of the principle choreometric measures by which human movement can be compared cross-culturally: the spacial geometry of movement, that is, whether the limbs create trace forms in one, two or three dimensions; the handling of the trunk, whether as a solid block in one unit or as two or more units. The main regional traditions of culture and movement style are defined and mapped out in terms of these two choreometric measures.
