  • 1993 ----- b & w ----- 107 min ----- laserdisc
  • (Directed by Sergei Eisenstein and D. I. Vassiliev, photography by Eduard Tisse, music by Sergei Prokofiev; with Nikolai Cherkassov, N. P. Okhlopkov, A. L. Abrikossov, V. O. Massalitinova, V. S. Ivasheva) For over 45 years this magnificent epic film has been shown as Joseph Stalin first saw it and approved it for showing--a work print! An incomplete print with badly recorded spoken and musical soundtracks was shown to Stalin to approve as a work-in-progress. Now the film has been remastered digitally to provide the clearest picture of Eisenstein's vision possible. The vocal tracks have been improved and the entire musical score has been rerecorded by the Chorus of St. Petersburg Teleradio Company, The Chamber Chorus of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg Chorus Capella "LIK", St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra; conducted by Yri Temirkanov. [Funded by the Department of Comparative Literature] (In Russian with English subtitles) (Restricted to use on University of Washington campuses only)
