- Jane Elliot's "blue eyed/brown eyed" exercise is recognized as a groundbreaking experiment in the sociology of racism and anti-racism training. This video is the summation of 28 years of experience in schools, universities and corporations; it marks a significant advance over previous films, Eye of the Storm and A Class Divided. A diverse group of 40 public employees from the Midwest--blacks, Hispanics, whites, women and men--are subjected to Elliott's withering regime. Jane Elliott treats them according to negative traits that are commonly assigned to people of color, women, lesbians and gay men, people with disabilities, and other non-dominant members of society. She later describes, with great emotion, how her family has been harassed and ostracized as a result of her efforts to educate white people about racism. (A study guide is available upon request)
