Mayakovsky: The Poetry of Action*
- 1973 ----- color ----- 21 min ----- vhs
- Vladimir Mayakovsky's work belies the view of poetry as an elitist form that evokes private passion and celebrates idyllic rusticity, for here was an artists--with images and with words--who used his talents in the service of the new Soviet state. His aim was to provoke passion in the masses, to glorify the new ideas and the new industrial might. Ultimately, Mayakovsky was destroyed by the conflict between artistic integrity and the demands of the Russian Revolution, but not before creating a major and influential body of work.
