Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey*

  • 1988 ----- color ----- 129 min ----- vhs
  • (Directed by Michael Apted, based on the work of Dian Fossey; with Sigourney Weaver, Bryan Brown, Julie Harris, John Omirah Milowi, Constantin Alexandrov, Iain Cutherbertson) Young anthropologist, Dian Fossey (Sigourney Weaver), travels to Africa to study the rare mountain gorilla. In this incredible paradise which she describes as being "as close to God as you can get", her interest in the gorillas turns to passion and finally obsession. Not even her lover, photographer Bob Campbell (Bryan Brown), can tear her away - or stop her from risking her life to protect the gorillas from poachers and animal traders. Desperate to save her "family" from extinction, Fossey searches for justice, but in the end settles for revenge. One of the "closer to the truth" bio-pictures. Besides it's fun to discover which of the gorillas are real and which are actors. (Donated by Biological Anthropology) (Restricted to use on University of Washington campuses only)
