  • The Province of Quebec is divided into seven sectors, each with a Societe de Conservation responsible for preventing, detecting and extinguishing forest fires. The provincial fire center in Quebec City, the Ministiere de l'Energie et des Resources, coordinates the efforts of the seven regions. To predict and locate fires quickly, experience and know-how are combined with sophisticated computer networks and modern tools such as lighting detectors, which can pinpoint the exact location of any lightning which strikes the surface. To extinguish fires as quickly as possible, highly trained ground troops and any of the 21 specially designed water bombers which are shared between the seven sectors can be dispatched and coordinated through the use of computerized resource tracking.
