Red Aviator, The (Part One)*

  • 1992 ----- color ----- 52 min ----- vhs
  • Rare and never-before-seen footage of the Il-2 (a plane that flew so low the dust and snow it churned up acted as camouflage), dog fights over Stalingrad between German Messerschmitts and YaK-9s, and the infamous Maxim Gorky, a 42 ton behemoth with a 200 foot wingspread are but a small portion of this video. Witness Russia's emergence into aviation from its first full-scale airplane in 1882 through WWII where it destroyed 57,000 German aircraft.
