(Directed by Andrzej Wajda, based on the novel by Wladyslaw Reymont; with Daniel Olbrychski, Andrzej Sewerny, Wojciech Pszoniak, Anna Nehrebecka, Franciszek Pieczka, Bozena Dykiel, Andrzej Szalawski) Three industrialists representing different ethnic groups in Poland--a Pole, a German and a Jew--build a textile factory in Lodz at the turn of the century.
