Early Russian Cinema, Part 6: Class Distinctions*
- 1992 ----- b & w ----- 95 min ----- vhs
- Despite strict censorship intended to prevent any inflammatory material reaching the screen, many early Russian films achieved a remarkably candid portrayal of social conditions. Goncharov portrayed the hardship of rural life in The Peasants' Lot (1912); and an early film by Evgenii Bauer, Silent Witnesses (1914) dealt frankly with servants' views of their masters in a Moscow mansion.
