- (Human Geography: People, Places and Change series, Part 10) What is happening in the East today, especially China and Japan, disrupts simple notions of East vs. West and, more significantly, Western accounts of globalization. Draws attention to developments in the East that have potential consequences for the West and examines the important role that "overseas Chinese" are playing in the transnational network that is the lifeblood of the Chinese business world. The program uses the making of a feature film funded by an overseas Chinese family to show the changing fortunes in Shanghai, which is experiencing an economic boom after being opened up to foreign investment.
