• (Free to Choose series, Part 5) Milton Friedman contends that "government intervention has been a major source of inequality at both ends of the income scale . . . any society which puts equality ahead of freedom will end up with neither equality or freedom." Some people want everyone to have the same income or benefits. Yet people simply are not all the same. Friedman contents that the great achievement and improvements of Western capitalism have redounded primarily to the benefit of the ordinary man in the street. They have primarily made available to the masses the luxuries that before were available only to the classes. (Includes discussion)
