- (Upon Reflection series) Host Marcia Alvar speaks with Suzanne Lebsock, Professor of History, University of Washington. Professor Lebsock, who specializes in the social history of women, is the author of many scholarly articles. One of her books, The Free Women of Petersburg: Status and Culture in a Southern Town 1784-1860, won the Bancroft Prize as the best book in American history written in 1985. It weaves the experiences of individual women together with social trends, showing how the status of women could change for the better in an antifeminist environment. She currently holds a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.
