Toronto, Stories from the Life of a City, Part 1: York*
- 1994 ----- color ----- 23 min ----- vhs
- Covers the period from 1793 to 1834--from Colonel and Mrs. Simcoe's arrival at a clearing in the wilderness in 1793, through the precarious growth of the village and town, to the incorporation of the city in 1834. Narrated by Mrs. Simcoe, this program is packed full of stories that poke gentle fun at Toronto's early inhabitants, and bring these roughly-hewn early years to life. Their preoccupations and concerns, told in their own words, resonate surprisinlgy loudly today. Rarely-seen images of York are matched up with footage of modern Toronto.
