(Produced by the Forest Alliance of British Columbia) Forestry practices have changed over the years to become more efficient, to remain competitive, to provide jobs and to be the engine that drives the British Columbian economy. On February 28, 1992, the Alliance approved and signed 21 principles of sustainable forestry which the members would all follow. These principles were adoped in order to protect the environment and provide for human health and safety while, at the same time, mainitaining an economically competitive forest industry. Areas addressed were the environment, forestry practices, other commercial values, community issues, research and monitoring. (Donated by the Department of Canadian Studies)
