  • (National Dream, The: Building the Impossible Railway series, Part 5) Tracks the progress of William Van Horn, an American who is placed in charge of building the stretch of rail across the Canadian Prairie. Van Horn does what no other man has been able to do--push the rail farther. His skill as a leader, as well as his ability to work out problems with the many workers, is phenomenal. The progress grows together with the boom of Winnipeg and a new route across the Plains. The results from this new expanse of rail is new immigration to the West and continued indifference from those in the East.
