- Western Canada has long felt the distant cousin of the rest of the country administered as it is from Ottowa. But times are changing and the economic shift of power is moving Westward. Instead of looking horizontally East, Western Canada is now looking vertically West. In other words, Cascadia (British Columbia, Alberta, Alaska, Washington and Oregon) are now looking at the Pacific Rim countries as their major trading partners. The Asian influence cannot be denied in British Columbia and bridging the cultural gap is of utmost importance. Industries friendly to the Pacific Northwest environment and eco-tourism continue to expand at a rapid pace. Discusses the enormous changes in agriculture in the Prairie Provinces including the interest in biotechnology. Changes in education are explored.
