Dinosaurs of the Gobi

  • 1994 ----- color ----- 55 min ----- vhs
  • (Nova series) The fossils of the Gobi Desert are legendary. Nowhere else are dinosaur remains so richly preserved and so sought after. For over half a century, communist isolation kept Western scientists from exploring this vast dinosaur graveyard. Now a team from the American Museum of Natural History has been invited back. Following in the tracks of the expeditions launched in the 1920's, lead by Roy Chapman Andrews (the model for Indiana Jones), velociraptors and primitive birds are among the intriguing fossil finds. They visit three major sites: "Flaming Cliffs," Tugrugeen and Naran Bulak, in the expedition's attempt to find what allowed mammals to diversify and flourish and caused the dinosaurs to die off.
