Tierra o Muerte: Land or Death

• Explores a land rights battle that has been raging in northern New Mexico for 150 years. It reveals the complex history of the Tierra Amarilla land grant, one of hundreds of community grants given by the Mexican government to encourage frontier settlement. But with the U.S. annexation of the Southwest following the Mexican-American War, legal manipulations and misunderstandings caused many land grant communities to lose their land and created a legacy of bitterness and hostility that remains today. To local residents of Mexican descent, their ongoing struggle is not just for property rights, but for cultural survival and a community's right to determine its own future.
