- (Upon Reflection series) Host Marcia Alvar speaks with Nawal El Saadawi, Egyptian novelist, playwright and scholar. Ms. Saadawi talks about her trials and her fight for equality for women in the Arab World. She discusses her childhood and her break with tradition to attend college and become a doctor. Also discussed is her role as Egypt's Ministry of Health Director and her eventual downfall from this position because she spoke out against policies of Anwar Sadat. Most of all, she stresses her desire to make the world aware of the oppression of women, especially those in Egypt (from which she is exiled).
