Fear of Rape (Margaret Gordon)
- 1994 ----- color ----- 28 min ----- vhs
- (Upon Reflection series) Host Marcia Alvar speaks with Margaret Gordon, Dean of the Graduate School of Public Affairs, University of Washington, and co-author of The Female Fear: The Social Costs of Rape. Professor Gordon points out that although women are less often victims of violence than men, they have a far greater level of fear. The fear of rape prevents some women from leading active lives; it forces them into self-isolation. Professor Gordon describes who women are afraid of, the law and recent changes in rape law, pornography and its numbing effect, and the high tolerance for violence as a way of life in the United States.
