Professor Bennett describes the "ideal" concepts behind American government and how those concepts have been corrupted by the "Three M's"--money, marketing, and the media. Special interests, candidates as product, and "sound bites" have reduced political campaigns to media events with little substance. He suggests reforms based on balancing three key factors: the public interest, individual private interest, and the common good.
