- Discusses the two models of modern human evolution which are, at present, dividing scientists. Looks at the effect of new dating technologies which have redated anatomically modern human fossils to 100,000 years old and how these technologies are shifting the balance of evidence between the two models. The new perspective being brought to evolutionary science is genetics. The geneticists have traced the variation that exists between the mitochondrial genes of the people alive today back to a single common ancestor who has been called the mitochondrial Eve.
