- There are many patterns of aging and many of the widely-believed negative stereotypes about the aged are untrue. The "activity theory" of aging, explored in California's "leisure world," sees the individual's social wants and needs as unchanging after middle age. An urban locale becomes the setting for a look at the "disengagement theory" which emphasizes and explains the contented withdrawal from society. Psychological aspects of aging and other patterns of aging are examined.
