Masai Women
- 1975 ----- color ----- 52 min ----- dvd/vhs
- (Disappearing World series) (Odyssey series) The Masai are animal herders on the highlands of the Rift Valley near the Kenya-Tanzanian border. They despise hunting; they do not grow crops of any kind; their land is held in common, and animals are the only form of wealth. Wealth for a Masai man is gauged not only by the size of his herd, but also by the number of his female dependants. The women of the tribe are totally dependent on the men, for they can never have rights of ownership over any living animal. To survive they must attach themselves to some man with cows, be it father, husband or son. Explores the lives of the women, their loves, their rights and their rituals.
