In Search of Cool Ground: The Migrants

- (Disappearing World series) Drought and famine in Ethiopia has driven over a quarter of the Mursi to migrate to a new homeland in the Mago Valley. While this new home promises relief from drought and hunger, it is changing their traditional way of life. A few hours walk away is Berka, a market village, and the Mursi are relying more and more on the market to supply necessities. Even the traditional dependence on cattle is under attack. The tsetse fly is decimating the Mursi's herds and the anti-sleeping sickness drugs are too expensive to use other than in a non-effective, highly diluted fashion. Yet they can't return to their former lands on the River Omo where the drought still threatens.
