- Documents the 1989 Havana Biennial Exhibition, featuring contemporary art of the Third World including Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa. Against the backdrop of the colonial city of Havana and surrounding area, this documentary features rare footage of a Santeria ritual; performances by Manual Mendive, Cuba's most famous contemporary artist: on-the-street interviews with Cubans; the surprisingly sophisticated contemporary art of the Third World; Afro-Cuban music by San Francisco-based Machete Ensemble; and interviews with San Francisco Bay Area artists Carlos Villa, Betty Kano, and U.C. Berkeley art historian Peter Selz.
