Running Fence
- 1978 ----- color ----- 58 min ----- vhs
- (Christo's Project for Sonoma and Marin Counties, State of California 1972-1976) A celebration of Christo's vision: first, a four-year struggle between the artist and the state bureaucracy, who want to prevent the fence being erected. Shows the legal problems and the process of gaining acceptance and approval from the local ranchers and townspeople. Then, the erection of a "nylon fence" 18 feet high and 24 miles long over the hills of California disappearing into the Pacific. Cost: three million dollars. The fence was taken down as planned at the end of two weeks and now exists solely on film.
