George Nakashima: Reflections of a Woodworker
- 1989 ----- color ----- 39 min ----- vhs
- Views the life of George Nakashima, woodworker and artist. Nakashima describes his youth in the Pacific Northwest and his travels as a young adult. He began his woodworking shortly after release from a Japanese-American internment camp. Nakashima believes in working with nature. There is spirit in trees and this spirit lives on in the furniture he makes. The Butterfly device has become a trademark--part of the aesthetics--of his furniture, in addition to being a useful device. Included is an excerpt from the gala opening of George Nakashima's exhibition at the James Michener Arts Center in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
