Mauna Kea: On the Verge of Other Worlds

- The observatory at Mauna Kea, on the big island of Hawaii, offers astronomers near-perfect conditions for studying the universe. Consequently, this site has the most innovative telescopes on the planet. Caltech and the University of California will soon install a 33-foot mirror on the mountain giving it the largest optical telescope in the world. Animated special effects segments highlight recent discoveries and special projects at the observatory including a study of light from the farthest reaches of the universe. Narrated by Johnny Carson.
