- (French Revolution series, Part 4) The time of the French Revolution was a time of conflict in Ireland where the Protestants held power. Wolfe Tone organized the United Irish Party, an underground Catholic society. Its members were hunted down, tortured and killed by the Protestants, following the lead of the Jacobites in France. The United Party spread the Catholic revolution to Belfast where it was put down by the army. Wolfe Tone died in a Dublin prison. The history of the United Irish Party was suppressed until this decade, the uprising was thought to be spontaneous. (Donated by the Arts & Entertainment Network)
