Dreams of Freedom

- (French Revolution series, Part 1) It is important to see what the French people chose to remember of 1789 and what they chose to celebrate. In Montsecret and Clairefougere, townspeople present a pageant to celebrate the Revolution as they remember the peasants (the Third Estate) and the poorer clergy who banded together against the oppression of the nobility. In Paris the artisans who created the opulence of the Court remember not the bankruptcy of the King but their own. Hunger turned to rage and, as Louis called in foreign troops to preserve the King's Peace, the city of Paris rioted, stormed Les Invalides for weapons and attacked the Bastille.
