  • Although the United States and Canada share a border and a close economic, social and political relationship, the two countries are based on very different cultural concepts: the "melting pot" and the "mosaic." In a melting-pot culture such as that of the United States, the different cultural backgrounds of the people tend to blend; in a mosaic culture such as Canada's, on the other hand, people with different backgrounds tend to retain their cultural identities and ties. Explores that multicultural mosaic, examining, in particular, its advantages and disadvantages to the immigrants and refugees that comprise much of it.
