Canada and the United States are each other's closest friends, largest trading partners and staunchest allies. The countries share social, cultural and economic interests. Despite their closeness, however, they have not always enjoyed a harmonious relationship. United States troops invaded Canada during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
