• Part One: Yaaba Soore: The Path of the Ancestors (18 min) Examines traditional West African (Burkina Faso) masks. Provides detailed analysis of the unique music, dance steps, costumes and audience interaction contributing to the effective impersonation of each of the characters the masks represent. Part Two: The Dance of the Spirits: Mask Styles and Performance in the Upper Volta (27 min) Provides interpretations of the mask performances that make museum artifacts more meaningful. The emphasis is on the performance and the successful impersonation of the character of the spirit represented by the mask.
