Wages of Action: Religion in a Hindu Village

  • 1979 ----- color ----- 47 min ----- vhs
  • Describes life in a typical Hindu village, Soyepur, and how the Hindu religion influences every aspect of life from birth to death. A pond is the center of village life and the three main castes, Brahmans, Bhars and Chamas, are grouped around it in their own separate hamlets. At the heart of the caste system is the religious idea of purity and pollution. Birth and death are the most impure incidents while marriage is the time of greatest ritual purity as the bride and groom are treated almost like gods. Life in a Hindu village means living together separately and differently. (First 3 minutes technically not up to standard; poor film master.)
