- (Odyssey series) Surveys the efforts and results of notable historical anthropologists. Charles G. Fairbanks excavates slave quarters in Georgia in order to verify and correct written documents of slave life. James Deetz conducts an intensive search into the roots of a multi-ethnic community that briefly flourished in a 19th century town near northern California coal mines. Several urban archaeologists in the Boston area use legislative and bureaucratic means to salvage valuable sites from subway excavation and construction to learn about the lives of early city dwellers.
