But surprisingly, there is one arena where women reign supreme--the market place. These tough, assertive women have evolved their own power structure. A head woman--the Queenmother--arbitrates all disputes over price and quality. Amidst the noise and color of the Kumasi central market one can perceive the intricacies of the matrilineal society.
