  • (Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky; with Anatoli Solonitzine, Ivan Lapikov) Based on the life of the fifteenth century Russian monk and icon painter, Andrei Rublev, the production follows his experiences in a Russia ravaged by Tartar invaders. Rublev is shown during various times in his life as the period is vividly recreated in all its violence. A rare hybrid film, an epic that is totally personal, expressing the feelings of an artist in conflict with his society.
